Options With Car Insurance

We have written on many occasions about the different types of car insurance available such as third party, third party fire and theft and fully comprehensive car insurance. We have also looked at ways that you can, potentially, reduce the premiums you are paying such as by having an alarm fitted or parking your car on the drive. However, we have not gone into any great detail about the potential “add-ons” that can be incorporated into car insurance at extra cost so let’s have a look at some of these.

Breakdown Cover

Many of you have probably got breakdown cover with the likes of the RAC, AA or Greenflag but have probably arranged this separately to your car insurance.

Well, most insurance companies provide this as an optional extra but you may be pleasantly surprised if you compare the cost of what you are presently paying with adding the same level of cover to your car insurance. Whether you just want roadside assistance or perhaps add in home start or even include onward travel or even European cover these may all be options that are available to you.

Who knows, you may be able to get identical breakdown cover but at a lower overall cost.

Legal Cover

Legal help is available to recover out of pocket expenses should you claim when you are not at fault. The sort of losses that you can claim back could include the likes of loss of earnings, policy excess on your car insurance, additional transport costs and personal injury compensation.

In addition a 24 hour helpline is often available should you have any legal queries.

Courtesy Car

With comprehensive car insurance you get a courtesy car if your car is being repaired. However, courtesy car cover would provide a hire car for a short period of time if your own car had been written off or stolen.

Protected No Claims Bonus

Should you make a claim this provides some protection against the loss of part or all of your no claims bonus.

There are other options such as replacement key cover but the above are the main ones.
