Car insurance premiums have increased steadily in recent years – in fact in the last 5 years they have risen by 61 per cent.
A good starting point is to look at cars that are in Car Insurance Group One as they are cheaper to insure than those in say Car Insurance Group Ten.
As a bonus the five vehicles listed below have small engines so are economical to drive and their parts are easy to get which also makes them reasonably cheap to replace.
The list is not in any order as car insurance premiums may differ between different insurance companies.
Chevrolet Spark 1.0 H/b 5d
The Chevrolet Spark is a great car to drive about town and is ideal as a first car. It comes under insurance group one and does 55.4 mpg. Not the fastest car on the road and it has a small boot.
Fiat Panda 1.1 Active ECO H/b 5d
Easy and great fun to drive plus it looks funky. Economical to drive and it also is in insurance group one. Your passengers will have to put up with the limited legroom in the back.
Volkswagen Fox 1.2 Urban H/b 3d
The Volkswagen Fox is fine to drive and provides good performance but is not particularly stylish although should hold its value. It comes within insurance group one.
Fiat Qubo 1.4 Active MPV 5d
The Fiat Qubo has a rather cube-looking design and although it appears compact on the outside it is surprisingly spacious inside. It is refined, easy to drive and comfortable. It comes within insurance group two.
Vauxhall Corsa 1.0i 12v ecoFLEX S3d
The Vauxhall Corsa’s 1.0-litre petrol engine does over 55mpg but is rather sluggish taking 17 seconds to get from 0 to 62mph. A little noisy as well. It comes within insurance group two.
