We have looked at numerous ways of trying to reduce your car insurance premiums such as switching from fully comprehensive to either third party, fire and theft or just third party car insurance, telematics (black box) and using a price comparison website. You could even consider picking up the phone to your existing car insurer when you receive your car insurance renewal documents that, invariably, inform you that your premium is to increase, and try to negotiate a reduction.
However, one thing that we have not looked at previously, is the possibility of buying a car that you know is cheaper to insure than many others. So let’s have a look at a number of the cars that are cheaper to insure than many other makes and models currently on the market.
Fiat Oubo 1.4
The Fiat Oubo1.4 is in insurance group 2 and it will cost from £11,490. It has a 1.4 litre petrol engine that has 73 bhp. It is a bit like a van with doors.
Skoda Citigo/VW UP and Seat M11 1.0
We have put these in together as their base models all come under insurance group Priced from £7,720. Even the plusher in their ranges only feature under insurance group 2 or 3.
Toyota Aygo 1.0
The Toyota Aygo 1.0 will cost you from £8,535 and comes under insurance group 2. It is very similar to the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107.
Dacia Sandero 1.2
The Daciia Sandero 1.2 litre petrol comes under insurance group 2. It is in fact the lowest priced new car currently on the market at £5,995.
Vauxhall Corsa 1.0
The Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 will cost you from £9,495 and comes under insurance group 2.
So, as you can see, you do have quite a selection of cars to choose from. Yes, they do tend to come with lower powered engines but that should come as no surprise.
